Here’s a brief recap of the sessions that unfolded throughout the afternoon:

Session 1: Keynote by Maria Makrides The event commenced with an inspiring keynote talk by Maria Makrides, Director of SAHMRI and an NHMRC Level 3 Investigator. Her role as the head of SAHMRI’s ‘Women and Kids’ Theme provided a fitting backdrop as she delved into cutting-edge nutrition research. Her keynote, titled “The journey to defining omega-3 fatty acid requirements for neuro-developmental outcomes of children,” not only shed light on crucial research but also emphasized the importance of diversity within collaborative teams. Professor Makrides’ parting words resonated deeply: “Have fun and enjoy the journey with your collaborators.”

Session 2: “A Focus on the Heart” Senior clinician-researchers Anand Ganesan, Bogda Koczwara, and Jeroen Hendriks took the stage in Session 2. Their succinct talks illuminated the vital intersection of clinical and research domains, revealing new perspectives on heart health and its significance.

Session 3: “Rehabilitating the Body and the Brain” The following session featured Kate Laver, Sue Gordon, and Malcolm Battersby, distinguished clinician-researchers who shared insights into the rehabilitation of both the body and the brain. Their talks underscored the potential of collaborative efforts in advancing medical care and research.

Session 4: “Panel Discussion on Multidisciplinary Research Success” The event’s climax arrived with a dynamic panel discussion. Esteemed clinician-researchers Raymond Chan, Robyn Clark, Tamara Mackean, and David Watson led the conversation, delving into the intricacies of leading diverse research teams. The panelists engaged with audience questions, providing sage advice on building successful multidisciplinary collaborations.

The prevailing theme throughout the event was the remarkable synergy between FHMRI and the Caring Futures Institute. The convergence of shared interests and objectives was evident in every talk and interaction. The event served as a catalyst for new conversations and potential collaborations, fostering an environment of innovation and exploration. Participants left invigorated and inspired to embrace the power of diversity and collaboration in pushing the boundaries of medical research.

For those who couldn’t attend in person, a recording of the event will soon be available. This ensures that the insights and wisdom shared during this event will continue to inspire and guide researchers on their collaborative journeys toward transformative discoveries.
