2023 MPH Student Award Celebration

Thanks to the generous support of private and public donors, the College of Medicine and Public Health (CMPH) is pleased to annually present awards and prizes to Flinders University students in recognition of their academic excellence, achievements, and contribution to the University. 

Flinders University staff, students, and their families were joined at the Alere Function Centre by distinguished guests including Keith Driscoll, Executive Director, Clinical Services, South Australian Ambulance Service (SAAS), and Lachlan Graham, Australasian College of Paramedicine, SA Committee Representative. Awarded to the second-year student in the Bachelor of Clinical Sciences who achieved the highest Grade Point Average over Years 1 and 2 of the course.

Bachelor of Medical Science Prize for Academic Excellence awardee Jason Arsanious with Senior Lecturer, Helen Harrison

Bachelor of Medical Science Prize for Academic Excellence: Jason Arsanious

Awarded to the student who has achieved the highest overall GPA over the duration of the course.

Bachelor of Medical Science Prize for Research Excellence awardee Tayla Albertini with Senior Lecturer, Helen Harrison

Bachelor of Medical Science Prize for Research Excellence: Tayla Albertini

Awarded to the student who has achieved research excellence and demonstrated exemplary professional contribution in the topic MDSC3102 Professional Placement in Medical Science.

Awarded to the student/s who have demonstrated a commitment to medical science, outside of their studies, by undertaking activities focused on addressing community concerns such as equitable access to health care and health education.

Michael Crotty Prize in Public Health awardee Shanti Omodei-James with A/Profe in Biostatistics, Shahid Ullah

Michael Crotty Prize in Public Health: Shanti Omodei-James

Awarded to the completing student/s in the Master of Public Health who achieves the highest-grade point average.

Maher Jedi Memorial Prize for Research Excellence in Biotechnology: Thi Giang Tuyet (Tuyet) Pham

Awarded to the student who achieves the highest mark in their research topic.

Russell Liston Award for Paramedic Clinical Excellence awardee Angus Jones with Keith Driscoll

Russell Liston Award for Paramedic Clinical Excellence: Angus Jones

Established in 2012 in memory of Russell Liston, an exceptional paramedic and a true professional. Awarded to the completing student in the Bachelor of Paramedic Science who demonstrates the most outstanding clinical excellence during their clinical placements with SA Ambulance Services.

Stafford Wulff Paramedic Graduate of the Year Awardee James Lawton with Senior Lecturer, Anthea Cayetano

Stafford Wulff Paramedic Graduate of the Year Award: James Lawton

Awarded to the student who is voted on by their peers and staff, for demonstrating compassion to all members of the community, courage and resilience to challenging life experiences, an unwavering level of energy and enthusiasm for life and for being genuinely friendly, whilst maintaining a high level of clinical skill and academic achievement throughout their studies of the Bachelor of Paramedic Science.

Australasian College of Paramedicine Award for Research Excellence: Charlotte Creek

Awarded to the student enrolled in the Bachelor of Paramedic Sciences who gains the highest overall grade in the topic PARA3004 Research Fundamentals for Contemporary Paramedicine.

Tom Sutherland Engagement Prize: Nicole Tilley

Established by his family in 2020, the $500 prize is awarded to the student who is voted on by their peers and the Bachelor of Paramedic Science First Year Coordinator, for demonstrating commitment to their studies, passion for paramedicine, mateship towards fellow students and academic excellence during their first year of the Bachelor of Paramedic Science.

Bachelor of Medical Science Prize for University Inclusion and Support awardee Chloe Walton with Senior Lecturer, Helen Harrison

Bachelor of Medical Science Prize for University Inclusion and Support: Chloe Walton

The prize shall be awarded to the student who has contributed to ensuring inclusion and support for their fellow students, regardless of but not limited to gender, background, religion, or culture. The prize is awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated sustained commitment to this area. An example could be involvement in the peer mentoring program which has gone above and beyond expectations. The prize is awarded for sustained contribution but can be awarded to a student at any stage during their Bachelor of Medical Science studies.
