Get Loud for Mental Health with Crazy Socks for Docs

The Flinders SA Regional Training Hub proudly supported Crazy Socks for Docs across our Rural and Remote Health SA campuses. Crazy Socks for Docs is a global movement dedicated to raising awareness about mental health in the medical profession. The initiative was founded by Dr. Geoff Toogood, who faced stigma after wearing mismatched socks, sparking unfounded concerns about his wellbeing. In response, the campaign now encourages healthcare workers to wear bright, mismatched socks as a symbol of solidarity and a way to spark conversations around mental health.

By sponsoring a fun array of socks, our Hub aimed to shine a light on the importance of breaking down barriers to mental health support and ensuring those who care for others receive the compassion and help they need.

Although the official 2025 awareness day is set for Friday, June 6, Flinders Rural and Remote Health campuses got involved early, on June 4. Staff and students gathered for a light lunch and proudly showed off their socks—featuring everything from barbecues to funny acronyms. The room was filled with goodwill and colour as we came together to support a cause that matters deeply to our healthcare community.

Crazy Socks for Docs is more than a fun tradition—it’s a vital reminder that mental health matters, and no one should face it alone.
