Meet Dr Yiting Han joining Flinders in the NT

“I was drawn to a career that combines scientific knowledge with meaningful human connections.” Dr Yiting Han joined Flinders University earlier this year, making the move from Melbourne to Darwin in search of new experiences in both life and medicine.

Now based at MedCentral GP clinic in Casuarina, she is also working as an academic GP registrar with Flinders at Royal Darwin Hospital campus. “My week is split between clinical work and teaching,” she says. “The variety keeps things engaging and helps me build both clinical and academic skills.”

Yiting supports medical students in Year 3 through small group teaching and is developing her own research. Teaching has quickly become a highlight. “Engaging with students is incredibly fulfilling,” she says. “I enjoy supporting their learning and being part of their journey into medicine.” She also values what students bring in return. “Their diverse backgrounds enrich the learning environment.”

Outside of work, Yiting stays active and creative. “I started figure skating about a year and a half ago and have been hooked ever since,” she says. She also enjoys travelling, scuba diving and playing the Guzheng.

Reflecting on her first few months in Darwin, she highlights the opportunity for local students. “The Northern Territory Medical Program offers a unique and supportive learning environment,” she says. “You gain experience you may not find elsewhere.”

Looking ahead, Yiting plans to complete her GP training and continue combining clinical practice with teaching and research.
