The University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) Photo Competition has provided placement students with the opportunity to showcase their experiences, creativity, and connection to rural and remote health and communities through photography.
The competition invited eligible students undertaking placements in rural and remote South Australia to capture and share moments that reflect their placement journey. Entries were submitted through an invitation-only link, with each competition round awarding three winners a $100 prize to assist with study or placement costs.
For the first round of the competition, students completing placements between 1 November 2025 and 30 April 2026 were invited to respond to the theme “Where we learn, live and work”.
The response from students was outstanding, with many thoughtful and creative submissions received. The photographs offered a unique insight into the students’ experiences living, learning, and working in rural and remote communities across South Australia.
Judging was challenging with so many excellent images submitted, and Lizzy, Hyeonbin and Chloe’s photographs were awarded the winning three.
From landscapes and community connections to everyday placement experiences, the images highlighted the diversity and value of rural health placements and the important role students play within these communities.

The UDRH Photo Competition beautifully highlights not only the stunning landscapes of our regions, but also the meaningful connections students build while living, learning, and working in rural communities.
