Working with our Singaporean colleagues

This year we have had the pleasure of working with our Singaporean colleagues, graduates and students with a number of initiatives. In April, Michelle Miller and Jolene Thomas visited Singapore for the IDP Education Fair and discussions with the Heads of Departments. In June. Louisa Matwiejczyk (Community and Public Health Placement Coordinator) and Amanda Wray (Clinical Placement Coordinator) facilitated a 2-day Placement Educator Workshop with 14 dietitians from seven hospitals and sites at Tan Tok Seng Hospital. They complemented the visit with meetings at some of the hospitals and services and were impressed by the great initiatives by Singaporean dietitians. They extend special thanks to the Heads of Department and dietitians for their generosity and time. Making the trip even more pleasurable  was the opportunity to catch up with Alumni’s from 2012, Alumni Yuefen Wong and her beautiful family and 2016 final year students.

More recently, Alumni Claudine Loong and her colleague, Mr Jayden Ang, visited our department for an afternoon with 30 students from Nanyang Polytechnic. Our current honours students enjoyed the opportunity to present their research topics in three-minutes each, which was very well received.

In September we also had a lovely visit from Singaporean Alumni Apple Can and Grace Seow and Hong Kong Alumni Gary Tsui. We received news that alumni Hazel Ee Yeong from Khoo Teck Puat Hospital has just relocated to London for a year to do a Masters in Gastroenterology with the Queen Mary University of London. George Toh also from Khoo Teck Puat Hospital is also specializing more in dietetics with a Masters.

If you are visiting SA, please let us know as we would love to see you!

Lastly, we have had five students from Singaporean Polytechnic on 10-week placements and are looking forward to more collaborations and initiatives with our Singaporean colleagues and students.
