On 30 June 2017, Assoc. Prof. Kaye Mehta and Ms. Marian Mcallister delivered a professional development session to teachers and school counsellors on “Critical thinking for evidence-based nutrition knowledge”. This session was part of the University’s liaison with Schools to assist with admission to courses.
The session addressed evidence-based knowledge and its application to popular nutrition claims. Marian and Kaye emphasised the ethical importance of assessing ‘expert claims’ and how the Flinders Nutrition and Dietetic courses equip students with the necessary critical thinking skills. Thirteen teachers provided feedback and expressed their appreciation for the experiential nature of the session and the practical skills they could take back to their students.
