The commencement of the 2018 academic year was marked with several orientation events for commencing students in Nutrition and Dietetics programs.
The start of O- week welcomed 34 new BND1 students to Flinders University. This also offered an opportunity for new students to meet their peer mentors. Thank you to BND2 students Bianca Collins, Mia Decesare and Alex Manson for taking on roles of peer mentors for our new students.
New MND1 students joined staff and existing MND2 students for an informal evening of drinks and nibbles at a separate event during O-week. This gathering was the perfect opportunity for everyone to get to know staff and fellow students before the commencement of classes. Thanks to Samuel Barnett, Tasha Koerner-Bungey and Emma Hamdorf for sharing your experiences and hospitality with our newest Masters students.
At the end of O-week, the discipline hosted an all-day orientation day that included BND students commencing in years 1, 2 & 3 in addition to the MND 1 students. The event was well attended and started with a welcome from Head of Teaching Section, Kaye Mehta along with academic staff. Guest speakers included past alumni who shared their career journeys, study tips and hints from the discipline’s newest PhD candidate Morgan Pankhurst, information about how students can engage with activities offered by the university and the discipline to enhance their career goals, and practical advice on working effectively in groups from the careers centre.
On behalf of the academic staff, we would like to also extend a welcome to all students and look forward to working with you in the years to come
