We are looking for a talented prospective PhD student to work with us on the Play It Again Project. Here’s a portion of the ad:
Early Australasian digital games were developed on a range of hardware and operating systems that are no longer compatible with current systems. This project will research technologies to automate the conversion of the source code to run within a current JVM while still maintaining the original “look and feel”.
This research will include migrating data from old media, and working with a range of instruction set architectures as well as a wide variety of legacy computer languages.
The successful candidate will have:
- a good knowledge of databases, Java and C programming, and compilers.
- good oral and written communication skills.
- an interest in digital preservation and Australasian cultural history.
