On Saturday 26 October at the State Population Health Conference in Adelaide, Dr Sabitra Kaphle was announced as the winner of the PHAA SA’s 2013 Kerry Kirke Award for her PhD thesis’ contribution to public health. The award was presented by well-known South Australian public health leader Dr Kerry Kirke AO. Dr Kaphle’s PhD research focused on ‘Uncovering the Covered: Women’s experiences of pregnancy and birth in remote mountain areas of Nepal” and she was co-supervised by the Southgate Institute’s Dr Lareen Newman and the University of Adelaide’s Assoc Professor Heather Hancock (pictured). Since graduating, Dr Kaphle has been working in Broadmeadows (Victoria) at the Population Health Branch of Dianella Community Health.
