EndNote for the Win! Making Referencing Easier

Hi fellow Flinders people!

My name is Jen, I am a Learning Advisor in the Learning Lounge here at Flinders.

I just wanted to quickly let you all know about EndNote. EndNote is a reference manager that helps you save time formatting citations, so you can focus on your work. When you download EndNote, it will add a tab and link to Word, so you can insert your citations directly into a Word document.

When I was in my undergraduate degree, I spent many stressful nights before assignments were due, madly formatting citations to comply with the specific style appropriate to the topic (e.g., APA, Harvard, Chicago, etc.). When I moved into my Honours degree, I started to use this magical software called EndNote, which automatically formatted my in-text citations and my reference list to the specific style I wanted.

This saved me so much time and frustration and made sure all the capital letters and full stops were in the right place (sometimes these small formatting errors are hard to see but may actually cost you some marks).

EndNote can also be used as a place to store the PDFs of journal articles so you can keep all of your references for a particular assignment in one handy place.

Flinders University has paid for license which allows all Flinders Students to download EndNote onto their personal computers. Information can be found here: https://students.flinders.edu.au/support/computing/endnote

The Student Learning Support Service and the Library run twice-weekly EndNote sessions to assist students with the program. There are two sessions to choose from each week during Semester 1 2022:

  • Tuesdays (from 15 March 2022), Time: 1pm – 2pm.
  • Wednesdays (from 16 March 2022), Time: 11am – 12pm

Location: The Commons (Level 2 of the Central Library, Bedford Park) or online via Microsoft Teams (access using the link found here: https://students.flinders.edu.au/support/slss#endnote).

You can also drop into the Learning Lounge for help Monday-Friday, 10:30am – 12:00pm and 12:30pm to 2:30pm.

Do yourself a favour and download EndNote to help make the referencing part of your assignments a breeze!
