More than 1200 Dietitians from over 40 countries descended on Granada, in the spectacular Andalusia region of Spain for the 17th International Congress of Dietetics earlier this month. The conference explored the theme of sustainability – of our Dietetic profession, the future training of Dietitian-Nutritionists and the role of sustainable diets in non-communicable disease. Flinders University staff contributed to the fantastic program of international speakers (Jenni Suen presented an oral and poster and Dr Kacie Dickinson presented 3 posters) profiling a range of projects being undertaking by the department. It was great to see a number of Flinders Alumni who also contributed oral presentations during the program. The conference was a great opportunity to network with old and new international dietetic colleagues.

Prior to the ICD was the 6th International Critical Dietetics Conference which was attended by Kacie and School of Health Science’s Dean Professor John Coveney. Critical Dietetics was a fantastic opportunity for insight and exploration regarding gender, race, class, ability, size, in the context of dietetics.
