The Brighton Jetty Classic and the Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures are annual events hosted by the Brighton Surf Life Saving Club. Flinders is a proud long-term sponsor of both community events that are a feature of the South Australian summer calendar.
Approximately 60%-70% of current students and alumni live or work in Adelaide’s south-west suburbs and the event is a means to promote the important role Flinders plays to the wider community.
The Brighton Jetty Classic, the largest open water swim in South Australia, was held on 2 February 2014 in scorching 44 degree Celsius heat. Participants, including the Flinders swim team, attempted a 100, 400 or 1500 metre course. On-shore, the Flinders branded marquee and stand provided refuge from the heat, and a team of volunteers dispensed University merchandise and answered course enquiries.
The Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures were on display from 22 January to 2 February and attracts local and interstate artists with sculptures ranging in size from small to large for both indoor and outdoor displays.
