The Sophia Fund Indigenous Bursary is generously provided by the Sophia Group. Based at Cabra College, the Sophia Group was founded by the Dominican Sisters and is a Christian feminist spirituality centre where people are committed to working for justice for all and especially for women. The 2016 recipient is Alisha Staines who used this support to purchase her own laptop allowing her to be flexible with her study, research and complete assignments.

“I didn’t have a support network when I first moved from Darwin to Adelaide, so receiving this bursary also encouraged me to persevere through tough times throughout the first stages of university.” – Alisha Staines

The women of the Sophia Group are committed to building unity and reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-indigenous people; and through contributing an amount of funding each week to the Sophia Fund Indigenous Bursary they are generating positive community impact and change. They have been contributing since 1999.

The Bursary has provided encouragement and assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to be better supported in their studies, applications are now open and close on 10 March 2017.
