Flinders looks to go Fair Trade

In a collaboration between the University and the Flinders Fair Trade Collective, an application will soon be submitted for Flinders to become part of the Fair Trade Communities program.

The Fair Trade Communities program acknowledges an organisation’s commitments to the principles of Fair Trade and the promotion of Fair Trade products.

“Flinders already stocks a wide range of Fair Trade products in our retail outlets”, said the Collective’s President Eilish Maguire.

“You can get a Fair Trade coffee at Bon Voyage or Wholefoods, soft drink at Myrtle and Mae and chocolate in the Campus Store. The reason for pursuing this accreditation is to formalise our commitment and encourage further provision of Fair Trade products within the University community.”

The University’s Sustainability Officer, Mr Mathew Jeffrey, said: “Fair Trade is part of our commitment to sustainability and to provide options sought after by students and staff”.
