Threatening weather held off to allow a spectacularly successful and moving launch ceremony for the new Hub and Plaza redevelopment last Friday, which was attended by 250 invited VIP guests, with hundreds of staff and students looking on from the terraces of the new central amphitheatre.

The official opening was performed by the State Minister for Higher Education and Skills, Dr Susan Close, who, as a Flinders graduate, spoke with great warmth about the significance of the University in her life.

Other events associated with the launch and 50th Anniversary on Friday included a reception for VIP guests hosted by the Vice-Chancellor, and an Alumni Reunion dinner, which was attended by a capacity 190 people in the new function centre in the refurbished Union Building.
