Massey honours alumnus Iain Hay

Professor IIainain Hay, Matthew Flinders Distinguished Professor of Geography in the School of the Environment, has just been awarded a Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award by his alma mater, Massey University in New Zealand.

Professor Hay graduated from Massey with a Master of Arts in 1985 before going on to complete a PhD at the University of Washington.

The citation from Massey noted Professor Hay’s publication record, his editorial role with a number of journals, and his receipt of the Prime Ministers’ Award for Australian University Teacher of the Year in 2006.

Professor Hay, who has received awards from academic bodies in the UK, US, New Zealand and Australia, is also a past President of the Institute of Australian Geographers and currently Vice-President of the International Geographical Union.
