Coastal expert appointed to State board

Professor Patrick Hesp has just been appointed to the Coast Protection Board, South Australia’s coastal management statutory authority.

• protect and restore the coast;
• develop the coast for aesthetic and other purposes;
• manage and improve coast facilities under the care and control of the Board;
• report on any matters that the Minister may refer to the Board for advice; and
• undertake research regarding the protection, restoration or development of the coast.

Since 1973 the Coast Protection Board, supported by the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources, has managed Adelaide’s beaches, and also provides advice to the Minister and Government, other authorities, councils and the community on coastal protection and climate change adaptation.

Professor Hesp stated that he was honoured to be appointed to the Board as it represented a wonderful opportunity to assist the SA Government in coastal processes research and management issues, and to pass this knowledge onto Flinders coastal students.
