Alumna’s Fine Art to dazzle NYC

Flinders alumna Jessica Watson-Thorp’s work will be the focus of an exhibition at New York City’s Agora Gallery next month titled ‘The Saturated Palette’.

Jessica, who graduated with a BA in Fine Arts in 1996, has earned a global reputation, selling her work in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa and Australia.

She describes it as “celebrating personal human experience and our dramatic physical environment”.

In addition to global sales, Jessica has featured in mainstream media, including on MTV.

An expert in the use of colour, she trained at universities in Adelaide and Sydney and has been proud to call the Middle East her home over the past decade.

She says painting, printmaking and parenting go hand-in-hand, as she balances her landscapes and observations with the inspiring reality of raising four children.

“I knew I was creative from the moment I could walk – my grandmother taught me to paint and exposed me to all different forms of media while whisking me away on art-inspired holidays,” she says.

“During my teens I spent a year living and studying in Africa. From that time colour became intrinsic to my work.”

Jessica has donated work to numerous charity auctions, and believes in the power of philanthropic art.

‘The Saturated Palette’ runs from 10 until 30 March at the Agora Gallery in the Chelsea Arts District of NYC’s Manhattan Island.

She will attend the opening night on Thursday 16 March.
