Coastal scientist selected for ‘Science meets Parliament’ event

Dr Graziela Miot da Silva, a coastal scientist in the School of the Environment, has been selected by the Australian Council for Environmental Deans and Directors (ACEDD) to represent them at the Science meets Parliament meeting in Canberra in March 21-22.

Dr Miot da Silva is only one of two Australia wide young scientists selected to attend this meeting as an ACEDD representative.

The Science meets Parliament meeting is a great opportunity for scientists to showcase their research to politicians and with important political stake holders to discuss Australian research priorities.

It also provides an opportunity to develop skills on how to discuss research objectives and outcomes with the press, and network at the highest levels of Parliament.

The two-day gathering of up to 200 scientists in Canberra includes a day of professional development, a gala dinner in the Great Hall of Parliament, a televised National Press Club address, and a day at Parliament House.

Delegates will meet privately with parliamentarians, attend a parliamentary forum and conclude with a farewell cocktail party with the Parliamentary Friends of Science.
