Flinders hosts biennial forum of mass spectroscopists

Last week Flinders hosted the 26th Australian and New Zealand Society for Mass Spectrometry Conference at Flinders Victoria Square.

This is the fourth time that Flinders has hosted this important biennial forum.

This year’s conference delved into diverse applications of mass spectrometry such as determining mass extinction events, surface imaging, forensic investigations, cancer detection and wine production.

Over 140 delegates from Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, United Kingdom, Germany, Croatia, France and the United States attended the conference.

A strong cohort of Flinders staff and students participated in the conference, including Associate Professor Stewart Walker; PhD students Eliza Moule, Sian La Vars and Victoria Hedger; and Flinders Analytical staff Dr Daniel Jardine and Jason Young.

Flinders graduate Dr Josh Hixson gave a welcome talk about mass spectrometers and wine in his capacity as Research Scientist at the Australian Wine Research Centre.
