Cancer warrior to compete in 3MT final

Medical student Ayla Orang has devoted herself to advancing therapeutic treatments for the third most prevalent cancer in the world: colorectal cancer, more commonly known as bowel cancer.

Colorectal cancer cells have one thing in common with all other cancer cells. They have an altered metabolism that is tightly regulated by microRNAs, which are tiny molecules produced from the human genome.

Ayla’s PhD is focused on how colorectal cancer cells manifest their metabolism and the role of microRNAs in this process.

This new knowledge will play a significant role in identifying therapeutic interventions for colorectal cancer and enhancing their ability to achieve positive health outcomes.

Don’t miss Ayla’s 3MT presentation on 1 September in Law Commerce Lecture Theatre 4 at 2.30pm.

Staff and students can register their attendance via the 3MT web-page.

More information about the 3MT Final is available in Grad News.
