Tourism student helps Red Centre make the Top 100 for Sustainable Destinations

Flinders University student Madeleine Brookes (pictured) has played a key role in helping Central Australia achieve recognition as a top tourism destination.

The Red Centre (Uluru-Alice Springs) has been included in this year’s Top 100 Winners for Sustainable Destinations.

The competition is organised by Green Destinations to promote sustainable tourism.

Madeleine, currently undertaking the Bachelor of International Tourism, recently completed a placement at Tourism Central Australia.

She is now employed at Tourism Central Australia and completing her studies externally.

In her role as Administration and Projects Coordinator, Madeleine submitted an entry to the Sustainable Destinations competition and also completed a project based on her entry as part of her university coursework.

Australia has never before been included in the Top 100 Sustainable Destinations.

Madeleine travelled to the Green Destinations Conference in Portugal to accept the award on behalf of Tourism Central Australia, and also delivered a presentation on the topic ‘Many Cultures, One #RedCentreNT’.

She was able to travel to the conference with financial support from Flinders University and Tourism Central Australia.

The full list of Top 100 Sustainable Destinations can be viewed on the Green Destinations website.
