Get nourished at Café Alere

Offering an all-day breakfast menu, gourmet sandwiches, a wide selection of healthy and light lunches, delicious take-away coffees, wine, beer and cocktails, Flinders’ very own Café Alere delivers a chic experience without the price tag.

Located on level 2 of the Student Hub, the award-winning café offers stunning 180-degree views of the southern coastline of Adelaide.

The outdoor deck overlooks the lake and garden and has proven to be a relaxed spot for staff, students, local business people and visitors to catch up and enjoy a coffee, breakfast or lunch.

The Alere kitchen is led by Kyle Wood (formerly head chef at Windy Point) and the café and function centre are managed by Nishant Chawla from Bespoke Hospitality Management.

Nishant’s passion for customer service has impressed the Flinders community since Alere opened in 2016 as part the redevelopment of the Flinders University Plaza and Student Hub.

“Alere’s name is derived from the Latin word A-le-re meaning ‘to feed’ or ‘to nourish’”, says Nishant.

“Our menu is focused on nourishing our customers with seasonal local produce that is fresh, fast and affordable.

“We treat food with true care to harness the best flavours.

“We have won several awards for our food and catering which we are very proud of.

“As lovers of food and wine, the Alere team is friendly, knowledgeable and expert at hosting events.

“It’s amazing to be part of the Flinders community as it directly connects us with the future generation of Australia.

“The campus is surrounded by beautiful nature and this inspires us to make beautiful food,” says Nishant.

On the menu

According to Nishant, one of the best things on the Alere menu is the ‘all day brekky’.

“Our all-day breakfast menu is available Monday to Friday until 3:30pm.

“There are a lot of tasty breakfast options, including ‘eggs your way’ for only $12.

“We have also just introduced our new festive Christmas menu, which includes a main dish and petit fours for only $20.

“For $30 you can get an entrée tasting plate as well.

“The Christmas set menus will only last until 22 December, so we are encouraging guests to book their table fast,” says Nishant.

Alere Function Centre

Adjacent to the café, the Alere Function Centre offers a uniquely adaptable space that is suitable to hosting corporate and collaborative events such as workshops, training sessions, conferences, seminars and cocktail evenings.

Quality chef-prepared meals are available at affordable prices for all events.

Hiring fees for the function spaces are waived for staff and students.

FBT discount at Café Alere and Function Centre

Corporate expenditure at Alere is exempt from Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) thanks to a particular tax ruling made by the Australian Tax Office.

This enables significant savings to be made by staff and students who use Alere’s high-quality facilities for meetings and celebrations.

Opening hours

Café Alere is open Monday to Friday from 7.30am – 5.00pm and is located on level 2 of the Student Hub.
