Antibiotics under the microscope in hospital study

Microbiology and Infectious Diseases lecturer Mr Cameron Phillips (pictured) has completed an Endeavour Executive Fellowship at Imperial College London, where he helped develop new strategies for prescribing antibiotics to hospital patients with penicillin allergy.

During his Fellowship, Mr Phillips worked under Alison Holmes, Professor of Infectious Disease at Imperial College London and Director of Infection Prevention and Control at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

The preliminary findings of Mr Phillips’ research have been presented at a national level in the United Kingdom.

Mr Phillips will continue his collaboration with Imperial College London in 2018 while basing himself at Flinders University.

In 2017 Mr Phillips also held two Visiting Researcher posts; one in the Department of Medicine at the University of Cambridge, and one in the Clinical Microbiology and Public Health Laboratory at Addenbrooke’s Hospital for Public Health England.

The Endeavour Executive Fellowship is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training and enables high achievers in business, industry, education or government to grow their expertise in their chosen field through collaborative work in a host environment.
