Students enjoy High Tea with Minister Ridgeway

Flinders tourism students enjoyed a High Tea with the South Australian Minister for Tourism at the Adelaide Convention Centre last week, 2 May 2018.

Seven students were hosted by the South Australian Tourism Commission as a thank-you to volunteers for their efforts during the cruise ship season.

For the last two years, Flinders University tourism students have provided hospitality services on Kangaroo Island for the cruise ship season, as part of their studies.

A total of 17 cruise ships visited Penneshaw on the island over the summer period. Students assisted with preparing for passengers and helped to bump out afterwards. They were well supported in their efforts, with overnight accommodation, meals and transport provided by the South Australian Tourism Commission.

The popular work integrated learning program gives students credit towards their Bachelor of International Tourism program.

This year’s student volunteers were highly praised for their outstanding customer service, friendliness and willingness to learn.

All students received a certificate and a gift at the High Tea – together with the opportunity for a photo with Minister for Tourism, the Hon David Ridgeway MLC.
