Aboriginal advocate, computer whiz join Young Achievers

A previous Flinders social work student and 16-year-old coding entrepreneur have been named among winners of the 2018 Channel 9 Young Achievers Awards, announced at a gala event on 11 May 2018.

Christine Glenn, who studied social work for two years at Flinders before concentrating on her mentoring role in netball, won the Department of Human Services Aboriginal Achievement Award.

Ms Glenn is Vice-president of the SA Aboriginal Junior Football Carnival – which she helped to create – and coaches young netball players. She is also implementing the Netball SA Inaugural Reconciliation Action this year.

Computer coding enthusiast Lachlan Etherton won the First National Real Estate Innovation Award. Aged just 16, he established a start-up, GetMoova, to develop a smart wrist device for children that encourages physical activity and features an emergency parent notification function.

Lachlan Etherton receives his award.

Mr Etherton worked with the New Venture Institute at Flinders to build his entrepreneurial skills.
