Move more and sit less for heart month

Flinders Sport and Fitness Centre and the Flinders Work Health and Safety Unit are continuing the Heart Week theme by offering special introductory fitness sessions designed to get staff sitting less and moving more.

Cardio room sessions

All staff and students are welcome to try structured exercise sessions led by an instructor in the Sport and Fitness Centre’s Cardio Room. Guests can attend one instructor-led 15 minute block, or stay to do several – for a $2 donation per visit that will provide funds for Flinders medical students participating in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.

All levels of fitness will be catered for in these sessions that run from Thursday 17 May through to Thursday 7 June 2018.

The hosted introductory sessions will be offered between 11.30am and 12.30pm, Monday to Friday. Participants are also encouraged to pick up information cards that detail easy exercises to do outside of the gym.

Crossfit Club

For those seeking more challenging fitness tasks, head to the Sports and Fitness Centre basement for Crossfit Club. Since 2013, the club has welcomed students, staff and the wider community to participate in the varied Crossfit program that includes elements of weightlifting, gymnastics and high-intensity training. For the competitive types, training can be designed to prepare for a range of local Crossfit competitions.

Challenges, fun and intensity are all part of the experience, with guidance and encouragement from coaches on equipment including rowers, kettlebells, barbells, assault bikes, pull-up stations, dumb-bells and sleds.

Try a free introductory lesson, then take advantage of a special during May that gives new members a 30% discount for the first three months. For more information, phone Dermot O’Rourke on 0449 184 590. For class times and prices, visit http://crossfitflinders.com, or email cffuclub@gmail.com
