Flinders buzzes with neuro-keen teens

Flinders recently hosted the regional South Australian finals for the International Brain Bee competition, a neuroscience competition for high school students that aims to inspire teenagers to learn about the brain and pursue careers in biomedical research.

Approximately 60 students descended on Bedford Park campus on 28 June for the day of brain challenges.

Winners from the day’s activities – students from Ignatius, Pembroke and Immanuel Colleges – will now join other regional finalists to compete in Brisbane as part of the Australian Neuroscience Society Conference in December. From there, an ‘Australian and New Zealand Brain Bee Challenge Champion’, will be chosen to compete in the international final in 2019.

Around 53 nations coordinate in Brain Bee programs around the world, with 50,000 students participating and more than 600 neuroscientists helping to organise and judge the events.  The initiative is made possible through the support of universities and organisations across the world, including Flinders.
