Entrepreneurial educator joins elite community

Selena Woodward in the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work has been selected as a Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) expert, joining more than 7,600 educators in the MIE program around the world.

Innovative educators are chosen by Microsoft each year to share ideas, try new approaches and learn from each other as a global community dedicated to improving student outcomes through technology.

Mrs Woodward, who is an adjunct lecturer and tutor at Flinders and also assists staff with technology integration, said she was “both honoured and excited” by the announcement.

“I know how important it is to keep developing and modelling skills in ICT that our pre-service teachers can take forward into their new careers.  I’m excited to learn more from my new learning community and to share that growth with my students.”

As an MIE Expert, educators build their capacity for using technology in the classroom and the curriculum to improve student learning, advise Microsoft and educational institutions on how to integrate technology in pedagogically sound ways, and be an advocate at events for how Microsoft technology can improve learning.

Mrs Woodward is also an entrepreneur who has established a portfolio platform for educators.

She completed Flinders’ New Venture Institute’s Venture Dorm program in 2016 and headed to the United States last year for an intensive accelerator program, after becoming a national finalist in the international MassChallenge event.
