Top prize for star translator

Flinders University lecturer in Italian language and culture, Dr Luciana D’Arcangeli, has won a national prize that will see her jet-off to Italy for a one-month residency at the Casa delle Traduzioni, a translation-focused research and accommodation hub located in central Rome.

Entrants in the 2018 IIC Prize for Italian Literary Translation  were required to translate Wu Ming’s short story ‘Momodou’ from ‘Crimini Italiani’ (the Italian Crime Anthology), edited by Giancarlo De Cataldo. Dr D’Arcangeli’s translation will be published in The AALITRA Review, which is the peer-reviewed open-access journal of the Australian Association for Literary Translation.

The judges commented that her entry “tackled the challenges admirably, bringing Wu Ming’s important and moving story to a new audience.”

Run by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura Melbourne, the impressive prize includes return airfares, spending money and four week accommodation.
