Law in the digital age showcase

Eight teams of Flinders law students will present at next week’s Law in a Digital Age Pitch Presentation, showcasing their apps to various clients.

The first cohort studying the new subject, Law in a Digital Age: Building A2J Legal Apps in 2019, in collaboration with Neota Logic, gives Flinders vital experience ahead of joining the workforce.

Their projects at the presentation are for:

  • JusticeNet – for self-represented litigants
  • Community Bridging Services Inc – in relation to access to the Disability Support Pension
  • Tillmann Law to address legal issues regarding employment of apprentices and trainees.

The course sees students working with Neota’s artificial intelligence platform to develop legal software applications for non-for-profit clients with a view to increasing access to justice.

Law lecturer Mark Ferraretto says the teams of three students were matched with a participating not-for-profit or social enterprise organisations to create apps that “address a need and facilitate improved access to justice”.

“Each organisation has played an important part in creating the vision and the initial planning of the app,” he says, “ and now the finished apps will be presented to clients and judged by an independent panel for the prize of best app.”

The new apps are hosted by Neota Logic free of charge for a period of time as part of Neota Logic’s pro-bono program.

Associate Professor of Law Tania Leiman says the showcase will be a chance to see what our students have achieved and to learn more about their unique first-hand experience of law in a digital age.

More than 60 people have registered to attend the presentations on Thursday 20 June 2019 at 5pm-7.30pm at Flinders at Victoria Square, Adelaide.
