Save the date for health festival

Health Research Week is set to make a splash in the south this September with the latest in cutting-edge research from Flinders, a BRAVE lecture on the incredible role of sleep, and the annual Chalmers Oration in an exciting, cross-College program.

Running this year from 2 to 6 September, Health Research Week has something for everyone – from technical talks attracting leading practitioners, government representatives and those at the precipice of medical research, to public lectures for all, and recognition of outstanding service.

The diversity of this year’s event reflects Flinders expanding collaborations in research and its burgeoning research strengths framed by strengthening Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) assessments, growing investment in research, and the establishment of new institutes to consolidate and foster new research, and make an impact in areas of greatest need.

Day one will include talks on the University’s newest health research hubs – the pending medical institute, the newly-launched Caring Futures Institute and the Órama Institute for mental health, wellbeing, and neuroscience, together with announcing the winners of new achievement awards.

Introductory discussions will conclude with a public BRAVE lecture at Alere featuring Professor Danny Eckert, Director and Matthew Flinders Fellow, Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health, who will discuss new horizons in treating sleep disorders, highlight recent discoveries, and dispel common sleep myths and facts.

Experts from Flinders and invited guests will then spend the week exploring the latest in understanding pain, cardiology, neuroscience, cancer and more at a variety of venues across Bedford Park while networking with partners and colleagues.

With the goal to share latest insights, inspire new research and collaborations, and celebrate valuable partnerships, all are welcome to attend this significant event on the University calendar.

Keep an eye out for the program next week
