Flinders researchers best in the nation

Professors Jonathan Craig, Marika Tiggemann, Lambert Schuwirth and Adrian Werner were lauded as the nation’s leading researchers in their respective fields by The Australian’s annual Research magazine.

The 2019 issue of Research was distributed in the newspaper’s 25 September issue, and follows its debut in 2018. It names the top researchers and top research institutions in Australia, together with other categories including those who are at the very top of their game globally.

Leading researchers in each field are selected through a comprehensive analysis of online information – big data – powered by the latest technology including pioneering research analytics. The rigorous selection process brings to the fore those who are Australia’s leading contributors to their fields.

The Australian notes this approach enables “excellence to be recognised which would otherwise not be noticed outside of a researcher’s peer group.”

Vice President of the College of Medicine and Public Health Professor Jonathan Craig was named the nation’s leading researcher in urology and nephrology.

Professor Marika Tiggemann was recognised as Australia’s top researcher in gender studies.

Professor Lambert Schuwirth took out a top spot for education research (unfortunately listed incorrectly under science and engineering instead of medicine education.)

Professor Adrian Werner was named Australia’s best researcher in hydrology and water resources.

Congratulations to all four research experts who made the stellar national list this year.

Published in hard-copy only, the magazine was an excellent opportunity to build on the University’s research strengths showcased in Brave Minds. A two-page advertisement highlighting health and medical research near the front of the publication and a column by Professor Ross McKinnon on the last page cemented Flinders’ impressive presence.
