Superstars in STEM opens

The search has opened for the 2020 Superstars of STEM – brilliant women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics selected by Australia’s peak body in science and technology to participate in a valuable program aimed at removing gender assumptions about scientists and increasing the visibility of women in STEM.

Created by Science & Technology Australia, the program is developing a critical mass of celebrity Australian female scientists and technologists who are fantastic role models for young women and to progress gender equality in STEM areas.

The initiative is equipping 150 female scientists and technologists with advanced communication skills and provide opportunities to use these in the media, on the stage and when speaking with decision makers.

Since the program began, the first 90 Superstars of STEM have featured in more than 4,800 news stories across Australia and reached more than 18,000 students in schools. These include Flinders University’s Professor Justine Smith who was selected in the inaugural round of Superstars.

This year’s applications will close on 31 August 2020.

Please note the Flinders University media team is happy to assist with submissions to support this excellent initiative and ensure our remarkable women in STEM have the opportunity to benefit.
