Rail on track despite disruptive year

Last week was a landmark occasion for Flinders University and its Flinders Village project, with the first track laid for the FlindersLink rail extension connecting the University to the Adelaide CBD.

Flinders Vice President Corporate Services Mark Gregory told the media on Wednesday (5 August) that each milestone brings Flinders Village a step closer, which will generate $1.5 billion in economic activity and boost jobs, research and student engagement.

South Australian infrastructure Minister Corey Wingard commented: “I think what we’re going to see at Flinders University in the future is going to be very exciting”, while Nicolle Flint MP – Member for Boothby – said it’s a shot in the arm for the state.

The relatively short extension to the rail line will bring enormous benefits to the southern medical and university precinct, providing a direct line next year from the Adelaide CBD to the Tonsley Innovation District, Flinders University, the Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders Private.
