Diversity during COVID and beyond

Dr Maree Meredith will speak at the Remaking Higher Education conference on 11 November, on whether women and Indigenous staff are getting a fair go at universities with reference to the current climate, and in the context of a post-pandemic world.

Dr Meredith will present her session with Rosalind De Sailly, principal of the international educational consulting company De Sailly Consulting. They will discuss the extensive loss of staff in Australia’s university sector over the past year and what this means for women and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander academics.

Data will be shared on how Australia’s tertiary sector is performing in its employment of women and Indigenous staff – including insights into universities where these academics are likely to have a fairer chance at advancement.

Dr Meredith is the Deputy Director and current Acting Director of the Flinders University Poche Centre for Indigenous Health. A Bidjara woman, her own research focuses on the importance of Aboriginal art centres to health and happiness in remote Indigenous communities, and how western systems should embrace the positive health benefits and social networking they create.

The Remaking Higher Education conference is an initiative of Campus Morning Mail and is being shared on Zoom, with participants invited to register for the individual sessions they are interested in.
