Bravely addressing COVID-19 vaccination

The first BRAVE lecture for 2021 on Thursday 4 March features an esteemed lineup of experts from the College of Medicine and Public Health to explain that we’re about to experience a seismic shift in our fight against COVID-19 with the rollout of vaccinations.

As a special treat, we have VIP seats available at the lecture – including drinks and nibbles from 5.15pm in Alere, followed by the one-hour lecture from 6pm – for the first 10 people to write and request a VIP seat at events@flinders.edu.au

Addressing the theme of ‘For the greater good: Controlling COVID-19 through vaccination’, Associate Professor Jill Carr, Professor Jonathan Craig and Professor Paul Ward will discuss the behavior of the COVID-19 virus, findings from the vaccine trials, the compliance issues and logistics of vaccinating our population, and how we understand vaccine hesitancy.

In recognising that Australia is taking its first steps towards mass COVID-19 vaccinations, the panel notes that the next few months will see the rollout of vaccines from various suppliers as they are approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). But with such a massive program, there are multiple questions that remain, and the BRAVE lecture panel will tackle such aspects as:

  • How do they work?
  • Do they work equally for everyone?
  • Which vaccines?
  • How do we go about vaccinating our population?
  • Are they safe?

The lecture – which will be followed by a panel discussion and online audience Q&A – is being livestreamed  from 6-7pm on Thursday 4 March. Online registrations are available through Eventbrite.
