Helfgott to celebrate music of a Polish flavor

Internationally renowned pianist David Helfgott OAM is coming to Adelaide – with the help of a noted Flinders University alumnus – to perform a special musical celebration with a Polish accent on Friday 18 June.

Flinders Distinguished Alumni Awardee Gosia Hill (BA ’83, BSocAdmin ’87) is the Honorary Consul for the Republic of Poland in South Australia and she is helping to organise this special concert for the Polish Community Council of Australia to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its foundation with music by the great Polish composer Frederic Chopin, along with Franz Liszt and Richard Addinsell.

Flinders University is a promoting partner for the Gala Concert by David Helfgott, being held at Brighton Performing Arts Centre (on the grounds of Brighton High School, 305 Brighton Rd, North Brighton), from 6pm to 8pm, Friday 18 June.

With Polish heritage, Australian-born pianist David Helfgott – who was catapulted to fame by the 1996 film Shine, directed by Flinders alumnus Scott Hicks – will perform a range of works with musicians from Brighton Secondary School.

Tickets for the concert can be booked online.
