Bright minds unite at Research World Cafe

The inaugural Flinders Research World Café attracted more than 60 Flinders researchers on Wednesday 23 June, to have their say on key research themes.

Hosted and facilitated by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Robert Saint, researchers participated in multiple, small group discussions on two key research topics: how to engage better with industry, and how to enhance the quality of higher degree supervision.

Designed as an informal event with a relaxed cafe ambiance, it allowed for open conversations to take place and fresh ideas to be aired.

The College Deans (Research) as well as Professor Tara Brabazon, Dean of Graduate Research, and Sally Wheldrake, Acting Director of Research Development and Support, also participated in the cross-college event.

The organisers will now collate the input and feedback from researchers who attended the event and disseminate it to participants and key stakeholders, to help inform future initiatives and decisions in these relevant areas.

Described as a positive and collaborative, some feedback from researchers at the event said it provided “a good chance to talk to others and see what’s being done well elsewhere”, was “a very useful and productive activity” and had several participants saying they “made several new contacts today that will be followed up”.
