Examining labour market policy challanges

Three crucial issues of future employment and workforce reshaping will be examined at the next Policy Network Forum – a free, in-person event being presented on Tuesday 6 July by the Department of the Premier & Cabinet and Flinders University’s College of Business Government and Law.

“Labour Market Challenges in a post-COVID world” will be presented by Louisa Newstead, Director Strategic Policy from the Department for Innovation and Skills. Ms Newstead’s background in strategic policy analysis and development, specialising in economic development and transition, has seen her work in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet in various economic development roles and in Cabinet Office. She started her career with the Irish Government, developing economic policy for Ireland as a member of the European Union and United Nations, before coming to South Australia in 1999.

“The Jobs Victoria Employment Network – Lessons from a Policy Evaluation” will be presented by Associate Professor Andreas Cebulla, from Flinders University’s Australian Industrial Transformation Institute. Associate Professor Cebulla’s focus is on the Future of Work in the Digital Age, and he has spent much of his career in economic or social policy research and evaluation, examining the labour market experiences of younger and older workers, and of socio-economically disadvantaged or marginalised populations (such as people with disability, and migrants).

“Now and into the future: the skills to prosper in the changing space of work” will be presented by Verity Kingsmill, Interim Director for Flinders University’s New Venture Institute, and previously Manager of Careers and Employability for the University. This combination sees her leading an Institute that works with the next wave of disruptors making their mark on the global workforce and working with students to also make their mark on the global workforce. She has spent the past decade exploring the skills needed to succeed in the future workforce, to develop opportunities for people to engage and extend their capacity to explore, understand and apply these skills.

To attend the free Policy Network Forum event, from 2.30pm-3.30pm on Tuesday 6 July at Flinders University at Victoria Square, register online via Eventbrite.
