Over the next week there will be increased building activity as we work to enhance and maintain the campus and prepare for the start of semester 2. We appreciate your understanding as we work to improve our campus.

Power outages across North Ridge buildings

Electrical maintenance continues across weekends in July, with a series of rolling power outages across North Ridge buildings, Flinders Living and Flinders Child Care Centre.

Wherever possible, please avoid these buildings on the weekends throughout July when the work is occurring. For office areas, please make sure you shut down your computer over the weekend.

If you have critical equipment or research requiring constant power supply and haven’t already spoken to our electrical team, or for any queries, please contact PFD as soon as possible. Please note, this weekend’s work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled for safety reasons.

Saturday 17 July

• 1min outage to Central Library / Drama MFT and Health Sciences Blg + Flinders Living Precinct all areas including Flinders Child Care Centre approx 6:10am + 6:40am

Stair works – Union Basement building and Student Hub South West

There will be temporary access restrictions to the following two staircases on Thursday 15 July:

• Basement stairs of Union building will be closed 7am – 1pm. Please use the stairs into the Hub to the west of UpCo’s caravan instead.
• The Hub stairs to the west of UpCo’s caravan – works from 1pm – 5pm. As this is a double stair case, access will be available throughout.

Tactiles (small raised metal tabs) are being installed to the top and bottom of the stairs to improve accessibility and wayfinding for people with disabilities.

There will be intermittent noise and vibration associated with these works.

University Drive landscaping works

From Tuesday – Thursday this week there will be landscaping maintenance occurring on the median strip on University Drive. Access will be maintained but traffic will be reduced to one lane each way. Please take additional care and slow down as you travel through the area, particularly when workers are on-site.

Laneway closed Sunday 18 July

The Laneway will be closed for safety reasons on Sunday 18 July, with a crane on-site.

The blue area marked on the image below shows the exclusion zones that will be in place for the Laneway and the loading dock area behind the Library. The following areas will also be temporarily closed all day with no access:

• Humanities Road
• Car park 5
• The driveway between the Laneway and the Oasis building (pedestrian access to Oasis only)
• The rear loading dock behind the Library
• Drama Centre
• MFT
• CHASS entrance from the Laneway (please use courtyard access instead)
• The sliding Library door to the breezeway/Laneway. Access the return chute from inside the Library.

In addition to the crane work, from Monday 12 July – Thursday 22 July, contractors will be moving through the Library to and from the plant room and there will be intermittent deliveries at the loading dock. There may be some intermittent noise associated with these works.

Please note, this work is weather dependant. If it can’t go ahead on Sunday 18 July, the works will be rescheduled for Sunday 25 July.

Bus stop A Registry Road – temporary redirection

On Saturday 18 July and Sunday 19 July, road resurfacing works will be undertaken near Bus Stop A on Registry Road.

As a result, all bus services for Bus Stop A will be redirected to Bus Stop B (opposite car park 6) over the weekend. Pedestrians will also be redirected via alternative paths to avoid the works area. Signage will be in place to inform bus users and pedestrians of the temporary changes. Please take additional care in the area and obey all directional signage and traffic management instructions.

The loading dock area between the Registry building and the Hub will also be closed for resurfacing this Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 July. No access will be available, reopening Monday morning.

New cleaning contractor appointed

After winning an open market tender, Australian Green Clean will be Flinders’ new cleaning contractors from 16 August. Australian Green Clean bring a wealth of demonstrated experience and a people centric, progressive approach to service delivery. Their contract will see them support metropolitan and rural locations, as well as providing specialised lab cleaning services.

As we transition, you’ll see some new faces around from mid-August, while services will be fully maintained throughout. If you have any cleaning requests, you can continue to submit these through Service One.
