Reconciliation in action at RAP Forum

Flinders University is currently holding its second annual RAP Forum until Thursday 16 September, to ensure it is continuing to make solid progress on Reconciliation ahead of submitting its next Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) progress report to Reconciliation Australia.

The Forum was officially opened with a morning tea at the Flinders University Museum of Art, where Uncle Mickey O’Brien performed a Welcome to Country, and President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling thanked the Flinders community for the dedication they have shown to Reconciliation. After refreshments, participants attended a campus cultural walking tour.

Professor Stirling recently returned from Darwin and reflected on the strengths of the Northern Territory Medical Program, which next month celebrates its 10th anniversary, and a track record of almost one in ten gradates coming from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds – testament to Flinders’ respect and support for culture.

“Thank you for embracing our journey towards reconciliation with open minds, so we can continue to grow from our challenges and build on our successes” Professor Stirling said.

Workshops throughout the forum will focus on Reconciliation, cultural respect, unconscious bias and the concept of Reconciliation in Australian higher education. Cultural activities include a weaving workshop and the FUMA Indigenous Collections Showcase.

The RAP Forum is supported by the RAP Co-Chairs Professor Jonathan Craig and Associate Professor Simone Ulalka Tur, and members of the RAP Oversight Committee.
