Wine industry leaders on campus

Leading legal experts from South Australia’s wine industry are conducting a seminar series at Flinders University’s College of Business, Government and Law as part of the new Bachelor of International Business (Wine, Spirits and Tourism). They will cover topics ranging from international trade and contracts, to labelling, grape procurement, protecting geographical indications and wine and spirit tax laws.

Finlaysons associate Ned Hewitson.

Among the five days of special industry lectures are presentations by partners of law firms Finlaysons and Minter Ellison, as well as experts from Wine Australia and Australian Grape and Wine Inc.

Finlaysons associate Ned Hewitson and Wine Australia’s Rachel Triggs, Jessica Pater and Angelica Crabb kickstarted proceedings on Monday, with Andrew Williams, Will Snow, Michael Butler and Kyra Renikov (Finlaysons) and David Morfesi (special counsel, Minter Ellison) presenting throughout the week.

Professor Roberta Crouch, the course coordinator who last week featured in the Fearless Conversations series, says the new topic provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain insights into long and short-term trends in the wine industry, the effects of COVID-19 and Chinese export decline, along with such issues as smoke taint and dispute resolution.
