‘Tis the season for new works around campus

Constructing a new College front is among the many works happening on campus at Flinders University.

FMC Learning Space Program works

Works will commence on refurbishing the FMC level 5 lecture theatre 3 this Friday, 3 December, as part of the Learning Space Program. Please be aware that this room will be closed during these renovations.

This work will involve demolishing lecture theatre seating and the old projection booth, and installing a new divider wall to create two spaces – a lower mini-lecture theatre (capacity 51 people) and an upper split-level collaborative teaching space (capacity 110 people). The space will be transformed into a fully accessible room with new flooring, windows, air conditioning, furniture and AV.

We expect these works will be completed by the second week in March, 2022.

Registry bus works

Works to install a new bus stop shelter at Registry Rd Bus Stop A will commence on Monday 6 December and continue until the end of January 2022. Bus Stop A will be closed during the works and all metro buses will be redirected to Registry Road Bus Stop B. This will involve excavation, concrete and building works to improve the shelter at Bus Stop A for metro and loop bus users.

The Loop Bus stop will be relocated to the front of the Gym, and additional access parking places will be created on the upper level of Car Park 6. Pedestrians will be redirected via alternate paths to avoid the works area. Signage will be in place to inform bus users and pedestrians of the temporary changes.

Please take additional care in the area and follow all directional signage and traffic management instructions.

Laneway works

We’re undertaking rectification works to the ground surface in the Flinders Laneway. This will start on Saturday 4 December from 6am. Works will involve removing the painted sloping ground outside of the toilets in the breezeway and the Matthew Flinders Theatre (MFT) Foyer and re-laying new bitumen.

Please be aware that a number of areas will be affected during these works and there will be no access to the following areas from the Laneway:

  • eastern entrance of the Humanities toilets breezeway
  • eastern entrance to the MFT foyer
  • south-facing door of the Drama Centre, adjacent to the MFT foyer.

For safety reasons, there will also be:

  • diversions for pedestrians access to the Student Hub, Central Library, Humanities, retailers and Oasis
  • noise in the area, affecting the Drama Centre, Humanities and MFT
  • closure of the laneway on Saturday 4 December and Wednesday 8 December. The coffee caravan will be closed on 8 December.

Please follow any directions and signage in place in the area during this time.

At this stage, we expect that works will be completed by Thursday 9 December 2021.

Works starting on CSE College front

Major works will begin on the College front for Science and Engineering from Monday 6 December, and are expected to continue until the end of April 2022. This project will create a welcoming entrance to the College, supporting the University’s strategic intent to orientate student-facing services towards the centre of the Bedford Park campus.

Along with services upgrade works in Anchor Court for a campus retailer, the project will also enhance amenity in the area for staff, students and visitors.

Please stay aware of works in the space and follow any pedestrian signage when moving in and around Anchor Court.

Car park 7 and 8 closures

Due to the various works taking place across the College of Science and Engineering, please note that car parks 7 and 8 in the South Ridge precinct will be closed from Monday 6 December.

This is to facilitate construction of the CSE College front and demolition works near the Biodiversity building, and a subsequent car park upgrade in this area. Car park 7 is expected to reopen in late February 2022 and car park 8 at the end of January 2022.

Information on other car parking options nearby is available here.

Please take care when moving through this area, following any directions and signage in place.

ASMS crane lift

In the coming weeks, there will be a mechanical services upgrade within the ASMS building. Westside will undertake these works under the management of ASMS and the Department of Education.

Works will involve a crane lift, likely to take place on 4 and 5 December, and scissor lifts throughout the duration of the project. The site compound is set up within car park 18 and will remain in place until mid-January 2022. Apart from the crane lift, all works will be contained within ASMS’s premises.

Please remain aware of activity in the area and follow any signage in place.
