A global trendsetter

Professor Billie Bonevski

Congratulations to Professor Billie Bonevski, Discipline Group Lead of Public Health in the College of Medicine and Public Health, who has been listed as one of the top 20 smoking cessation researchers in the world. The review, published in the journal Preventive Medicine Reports, analysed global trends in smoking cessation research from 2002 to 2021. The authors listed Professor Bonevski as the 14th most productive author globally, and only one of two Australian’s on the list, mentioning she has become even more active in recent years.

Flinders grads makes his mark

Peter Jenkin, 2022 HESTA Nurse Practitioner of the Year.

Congratulations to Flinders University Master of Nurse Practitioner graduate Peter Jenkin, who has won the 2022 HESTA Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award. Peter was recognised for his outstanding contributions to the areas of clinical work, mentoring and leadership.

Having spent the past 11 years as a Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner, Peter is actively involved at a local, state and national level working to improve the care of older Australians as they approach the end of their lives.

“I have worked in various clinical, research and education roles in specialist palliative care for more than 25 years, and developed an interest very early about the interface between aged care and palliative care. It has marked a very big change from my early career as an ambo and ED nurse,” says Peter.

Best placed in SA

The Flinders University Warman team

A team of Flinders University Mechanical Engineering students have had a successful run in the recent 2022 Warman Design and Build Competition. Despite some technical difficulties, the team managed to be the best placed South Australian university.

The competition provides students with a rare opportunity to practice hands on engineering design skills. Students are also offered the opportunity to participate in a site tour of Weir Minerals and walk through the full production cycle of a leading global engineering company specialised in the design and manufacture of highly-engineered products and services for minerals, oil and gas, and power industries.
