Media training for researchers with AusSMC

Build your communications skills and become Science Media Savvy by attending a free and entertaining online workshop for researchers, presented on Friday 3 May by the Australian Science Media Centre.

The Science Media Savvy workshop is designed to increase confidence and give researchers the knowledge and media skills to engage more effectively with the wider public through the media.

If you are interested in how the media works and want to help journalists report effectively on your subject, then sign up for this online workshop session which will be delivered via Zoom – but be quick, because this is the final week for Flinders science experts to register for this special offering.

Presenter Dr Joe Milton, Senior Media Officer at the Australian Science Media Centre, will explain at the workshop what makes a story attractive to the media, what drives the news agenda, and what media outlets need from researchers. You will also learn some practical techniques to improve communication, avoid jargon and tailor your message to your audience.

Dr Milton will also provide top tips on planning and preparing for media interviews, and on lessons on developing a story that can be applied to improving stakeholder engagement, funding applications, public talks and outreach.

To sign up for the workshop, which will run from 9.30am to 12.30pm AEST on Friday 3 May, sign up via this online link.

Please only choose a ticket allocated to your organisation.
