Join Flinders University Library for Open Access Week, October 21-27

The Dean of Graduate Research, Professor Tara Brabazon, is a huge advocate of Open Access publishing. We asked Tara why Open Access is so important for Higher Degrees by Research students:

“Open Access reminds researchers why we research.  Our work is written to be read.  I want the dissemination of our research – our readers and our audience – to reach the world.  So often, publishers hide our articles behind a paywall.  But a credit card should not determine the right to read our research.  Open Access publications show that interest, motivation and passion are the only requirements to read and apply our findings.  In that way, our universities – our researchers – enable engaged, informed citizenship.

We are holding a series of informal events around Flinders University Campuses to promote Open Access, including Pop-up Library chats in the Colleges and a free lunchtime screening of the film Paywall: the business of scholarship.  We encourage you to join us and welcome your curiosity in finding out how we can help you demystify & get the most out of Open Access publishing options for your research.
