Reflections on the CAUDIT Leadership Institute

Target audience: IDS staff

Posted on behalf of Ewa Seidel

I had the privilege to attend the CAUDIT Leadership Institute this year with Feisar Joya. This was a week-long event facilitated by 7 International Higher Education CIOs and Librarians, designed for people who aspire to become leaders in IT. I learned about many things over the week, with some take-homes including:

  • the importance of establishing networks and reationships
  • understand your ‘why’ and lead with it
  • keep disruption in mind
  • “what got you here won’t get you there”
  • adopt an investment mindset
  • say your message in no more than 6 minutes
  • be ready to adjust your communication style based on the audience
  • being silly in the workplace promotes creativity

The event was highly interactive with lots of fun activities to create an environment where the attendees could put their learning into practice. I found the Institute to be highly relevant, extremely valuable and am grateful that the IDS Leadership nominated me to attend.
