Embarking on a marketing journey with Flinders graduate, Nhung.

“I’m drawn to marketing’s intrigue—connecting products from the warehouse to customers. It’s not just a major; it’s a continuous learning journey rich in lessons.”

After relocating from Vietnam to South Australia, Nhung, a 2023 Marketing graduate was initially drawn to studying Bachelor of Business (Marketing) at Flinders University because of the ever-evolving nature of the field. From the continuous technological advancements to the opportunity to engage in creative strategies, she knew a business degree would help propel her passion.

Through her studies at Flinders and offerings in her course, Nhung has been able to explore areas of the business sector she was previously unfamiliar with, which in turn, allowed her to grow as a student and within her desired career field.

“One of the most interesting topics I have learned about is social marketing (SM). The purpose and strategy of SM are quite different from normal marketing, so it broadened my horizons after studying that topic,” she says.

Embracing a supportive space

Nhung describes studying at Flinders as being her “best choice ever,” and largely credits her positive experience to the variety of student support networks and the welcoming Flinders community.

“Flinders is like my second home, where I’ve met like-minded friends, been taught by enthusiastic topic coordinators, and had supportive staff from Flinders. I wouldn’t have had an amazing experience studying at Flinders University without assistance from student support, namely from International Student Services (ISS). ”

With support from ISS and other key student support groups, Nhung has been able to connect with the vibrant international student community at Flinders and have an amazing on-campus experience throughout her studies.

“Flinders is a great university because of its good student support system. Flinders never leaves you behind, as they always provide the best student services to quickly respond to your problems,” she says.

The support offered at Flinders also comes in the way of its unique and modern facilities. Studying at the Bedford Park campus provides a picturesque and community-driven base for students to thrive.

“Flinders facilities are wonderful, especially the library which is open 24/7, so it’s convenient for us to study when it comes to deadline time.”

With Flinders City Campus now open, business students like Nhung also have the opportunity to study in the heart of Adelaide’s central business district and immerse in industry from the very start of their degree. You can find out more here.

Adapting to Adelaide

In choosing her study destination, Nhung opted for Adelaide, South Australia because it is renowned for being one of the world’s most liveable cities (Global Liveability Index). She was also drawn to the relaxed atmosphere that the city has to offer, which suited her ideal lifestyle.

“Adelaide provides me with a peaceful vibe which I’m looking for in a place to study for my university life. I have been enjoying life in Adelaide so far and gradually adapting to everything.”

Known as the 20-minute city, Adelaide is extremely easy for students to navigate and move around, with easy and quick access to and from the city, hills, beaches, and beyond.

“It’s pretty convenient for students to catch the bus to the university. Also, I fell in love with Adelaide because there are numerous gorgeous beaches along the city within 20-30 minutes by bus.”

Building a foundation for the future

A key focus for all Flinders’ degrees is ensuring students graduate career-ready and equipped with the practical skills needed to be successful in the workplace. For Nhung, this meant she had the opportunity to undertake a placement at one of Australia’s leading family jewelers.

“Thanks to Flinders, I was offered to work in a professional working environment to pursue my major within a 150-hour internship. After working there, I now understand what I need to do and am self-oriented for my upcoming career path in marketing.”

Opportunities to immerse in real-life working environments have sparked Nhung’s passion to delve deeper into the world of marketing. She hopes to transition into a master’s degree and expand on her knowledge and skills within the high-demand field.

“In the next five years, I see myself as an entrepreneur for my own business using my marketing abilities to promote and support other departments,” she says.
